It’s the final concert of our summer series: Laila Nur & The Love Riot! A Durhamite by way of NYC, Laila Nur is the best kind of trouble the South needs. Raised Sunni Muslim in the city, Nur knows very well the struggle of poverty, discrimination, and how to find resilience and celebration as part of survival. As a self-taught artist, Laila Nur played her first show in 2010, just months after picking up a guitar.
Today, she is one of North Carolina’s most innovative & groundbreaking artists, with her charged lyrical content and experimental style. You’ve probably heard about Laila on NPR, AFROPUNK, Huffington Post or via GLAAD. Presented in partnership with the LGBTQ Center of Durham, who will lead an audience Q&A with Ms. Nur after the show. Local food trucks and craft beer scheduled: Boriqua Soul, Pie Pushers, Chez Moi, Bull City Brewery, Bull City Ciderworks. https://www.lailanur.com/
