BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND! Skylar Gudasz and Kamara Thomas Music, two of the south’s top songwriters, will lead a special FREE guitar and songwriting workshop for TEEN GIRLS and WOMEN of all levels at Central Park School for Children Middle School atrium. RSVP in this event page so we can get a head count. If you play guitar, bring it. If not, bring notebook, pen and ideas. Thanks to Central Park School for Children Middle School and our grant funding from the North Carolina Arts Council! Park in the small back parking lot, come in back door and the classroom is the first door on the left.

Skylar Gudasz moved to Durham from small town Virginia. Kamara Thomas is a Durham-by-way-of-Brooklyn transplant. “Gudasz’s antecedents are no mystery. She summons Joni Mitchell throughout Oleander, particularly in the twisted acoustic romp of the ebullient “Just Friends” and the Blue-like piano fantasy of “About Great Men.” You can trace the lessons of Laurel Canyon and Crosby, Stills & Nash, The Jayhawks and perhaps even The Shins” –Grayson Currin, IndyWeek.

Kamara Thomas is a songwriter, storyteller, and mythology fanatic based in Durham, NC. In 2016 she ran a successful Kickstarter campaign to fund the recording of her upcoming debut album, TULAROSA: AN AMERICAN DREAMTIME, a collection of character narratives describing the complications of the elusive American Dream. For over a decade Kamara recorded and toured internationally as the singer-bassist in the NYC rock band Earl Greyhound, and fronted Americana group The Ghost Gamblers.
“As a singer/songwriter/sometimes playwright, Kamara has found her place here” –Durham Magazine.
