Volunteering at Durham Central Park supports our organization in so many ways. By giving your time you make the park a cleaner, safer, and more beautiful space! Not only that, but our event volunteers foster community and sustainability by providing support to make our free programs the best in downtown Durham. Our volunteers participate in so many ways: from gardening and park maintenance to staffing events and waste reduction measures. Learn about our volunteer opportunities below:
Park Cleanup Workdays
We hold workdays year-round during the Durham Farmers’ Market to clean up the gardens and paths in the park. If you love whacking weeds, trimming brush, mulching and generally making things look spiffy around the park, from the rain garden trail to along the creek, then this is the opportunity for you! Work days are twice a month from 10am-12pm, and folks meet at the bridge on the corner of Hunt and Foster St.
Our spring workdays are coming up: May 14, 28 | June 18 | July 30
Check our Calendar for upcoming workday info.
Food Truck Rodeo Rowdies
DCP is hosting four Food Truck Rodeos in 2022! These events need lots of hands so that they can run smoothly. We have a dedicated crew of Rodeo Rowdies (Rodeo Volunteers), but we are always looking for folks who can help with set up and break down, and manage the DCP Info Table. All Rowdies get a t-shirt and vouchers to eat from the food trucks!
Waste Warrior Volunteers
The Waste Warriors are a team of volunteers that help staff all of the waste stations during our Food Truck Rodeos and other events. They help guests sort trash into compost, recycling and landfill trash. Waste Warriors also educate folks about what how much can be composted and recycled. The Waste Warriors have helped to divert thousands of pounds of trash from landfills over the past few years.
Large Group Volunteer Events
Do you have group that would like to do a service event? We can accommodate you! We are happy to set up a special workday for your group. Please call or email Erin: 919-794-8194 or [email protected]
